Making Graduated filters with gradients> Step 2

The first step is to pick the Gradient tool from Photoshop's toolbox. This tool is present in all versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, but may be hiding under another tool depending on the version you are using. In version 7.0 and Elements, by choosing the tool, you will automatically see the top menu bar change to display the tools properties. In earlier versions, you will need to double click the tool icon to bring up the floating properties palette on your desktop. Makre sure you pick the Linear Gradient tool, as shown on the left, rather than any other gradient variation.
