Paper Documents (1990-93)
Paper Documents records abandoned interior spaces of Brutalist high-rise tower blocks in Liverpool
and London in the early 1990s. The Netherley estate in Liverpool was completed in 1972 and built from
pre-cast concrete panels, yet it quickly became a byword for poor construction. My project
was undertaken just before many buildings were demolished and records how residents
personalised and softened their interior spaces with paint and wallpaper. Ever-present is the
view outside of other low-cost, high density, modular housing units.
